Postiguet, an eight-minute walk. And four minutes away, the Mercado tram stop for all the others.

When people ask us about the nearest beach, the answer is easy: Postiguet. It’s an eight-minute walk from the door, about 600 metres. No car, no parking and no timetables.
But Alicante has a lot more coastline, and from L’Alcor Old Town you can reach it without a car. One of our first guests summed it up in their review: the house is “close to the sea and to the tram line for getting to other beaches”. Here’s how.
It’s the city beach, at the foot of the hill topped by Santa Bárbara castle. You leave the old town, cross the road and you’re on the sand. It’s the one we use for short breaks: a swim before lunch, a walk at sunset or a little while down there after dinner.
Because it’s so close, you don’t need to carry anything. You can come back to the studio for lunch, have a shower and head down again in the afternoon.
The Mercado stop is a four-minute walk from the studio, about 300 metres. For the beach, take line 3 (L3): it runs along the coast to El Campello, stops at every stop and comes every 15 minutes. The L1 also goes that way, but it’s the Benidorm line: if you take it, check the screen to see whether it stops where you’re going.
A single ticket costs €1.45 to any of these three beaches, and the ride takes between 10 and 20 minutes depending on which one you go to:
If you go to El Campello, make the most of the trip: from the same stop you can reach the Baños de la Reina, Roman fish tanks carved into the rock by the sea. It’s the place we recommend when someone wants something only the locals know.
Full timetables, first and last trams included, are on the TRAM d’Alacant website. Check them before you stay on to watch the sunset.
There’s another way to go that many people don’t know about. The L5 leaves from the Porta del Mar stop, right by Postiguet beach, and heads towards Cabo de la Huerta and San Juan beach.
It makes sense if you’re already at Postiguet and fancy a change of beach without going back to Mercado. Walk down from the studio, have your first swim and carry on by tram from there.
The good thing about sleeping in the old town rather than on the seafront is that you get both: the beach eight minutes away and the neighbourhood, with its streets, its bars and the Mercado Central, on your doorstep.
And the studio kitchen helps more than you’d think. It has a ceramic hob, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, kettle and crockery. You can pack the cool box in the morning and have a relaxed dinner when you get back. To fill it, the Mercado Central is a five-minute walk.
And if on your last day you want one more swim before you leave, ask about late check-out. If you book directly with us it’s free, subject to availability.
Everything else around us, from the castle and the market to the festivals and the day trips, is on our Area guide page.
